Highlight: My first bear sighting on any trail. (Honorable mention: Another beer sighting. The trail has removed any beer snobbery I might have had.)
Biggest challenge: Realizing that my bear excitement almost came at someone else’s expense. I didn’t notice that this guy was napping within the frame of my photo until after I went by, seeing him stunned by the close encounter. Needless to say, he was relieved that I passed by when I did. He could have easily seen his pack being dragged away, or worse, awakened to find a bear within swiping distance.
